We had Australian pounds, shillings and pence prior to the decimalisation of our currency and thus the introduction of the Australian dollar in 1966.

At more length, English pounds sterling were used in the Australian colonies from 1825 and even after the Federation of our Commonwealth in 1901. Australia minted our first silver coins in 1910, first bronze coins in 1911 and first banknotes in 1913.

Can you tell I used to collect coins and banknotes Nico?

Also, the Reserve Bank of Australia's banknote printing branch is a world leader in banknote security technology, and hence they print banknotes under contract for many other countries.
